FAQ
1. Do I need to do anything before you arrive?
No. It is actually better if you don't. We like to see how your space naturally functions (or doesn't) to understand your habits and identify clutter hot spots. Do not be embarrassed by the mess. We are here to help.
2. Will you judge me or throw away things without my permission?
We have true and sincere compassion for all of our clients no matter their particular circumstances. We understand and respect each person's journey of life. Our goal is to help you live both your best and your now life, and we work with you to find that.
3. How long does a typical de hoarding project take?
It varies significantly based on the size of the home, the volume of items, the speed at which you make decisions, and your budget. Projects can take a week or up to a couple of months. Some other variables include if the home is being reconfigured for better flow and access, emptied entirely, or if you are moving. It is not always about the number of days for us but rather that we accomplish your goals in a way that is honoring and sustaining you. When we first meet, we will create a custom timeline that works for you.
4. What happens to the items I decide to donate? Can I change my mind?
We are very networked into different ways to handle removal. Donation to specific caused-based centers is a top choice, and we can also work with the center of your choice. We handle trash disposal and dumpster coordination as well as help you identify items to sell. It is recommended to remove decided items from your home day of to prevent the "donate pile" from becoming a permanent fixture, though we understand that some things take a second look. This is your journey, and without your participation, it is not going to last for you. Our goal is to make it last, so we want you to participate.
5. Do you work with family members or just the person who hoards?
We work with everyone affected — because hoarding impacts whole families, not just one person.
That said, the person in control of the hoarding is always at the center of our work. Progress happens when someone feels safe, respected, and free from pressure. For that reason, we often recommend starting with one-on-one sessions where trust can be built without the weight of family dynamics, however well-intentioned.
Family members carry their own burden too: the worry, the frustration, the grief of watching someone they love struggle. We honor that, and as the process unfolds, we find ways to bring loved ones in through guidance, separate support, or shared sessions when the time is right. Everyone deserves to be heard feel less alone in this.
6. What does it cost?
This is not an inexpensive task. Much of the cost is for labor, and that is determined by the size of the home and the volume of belongings. Sometimes there are additional costs with dumpsters and removal as well. Costs can run anywhere from $3000-$15,000, so there is just a wide range with great variance. We come and meet with you and discuss all options and expenses together and and work with your budget.
